Sci-fi fans' delight

Visioncon, a celebration of science fiction, fantasy and gaming, returns to Springfield. The annual convention opens today and runs through Sunday at the Clarion Hotel, 3333 S Glenstone Ave.

Activities -- starting at noon today and 9am on Saturday and Sunday -- include a costume contest, a charity auction, panel discussions with the guests, a dealer room, an art show and lots of gaming. Guests: actress Leni Parker, Da'an in Gene Roddenberry's "Earth: Final Conflict"; David Winning, director, producer, writer and cinematographer; actor Bill Blair, artist Peter Bradley and Jack Stauffer, Bojay on "Battlestar Galactica"; and others.

Admission is $25 for the weekend; fans who just want to shop can stop by the dealer room without paying the registration fee.
