MISSION STATEMENT
Visioncon provides a place for fans of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Gaming
to meet once a year to make new friends, see old friends, to play, and to
learn. Many of the activities include gaming, guests, film, lectures, and
discussions. A percentage of the proceeds are given to a charity, and the
event also includes charity drives throughout the weekend.
HISTORY
Since 1990, Springfield, Missouri, has been the host of an event that has
celebrated the pop-culture genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Gaming
while charming guests with a little Midwestern hospitality. The convention
started as a simple one-day event. The outpouring of attendance is what
made Visioncon what it is today.
WHO WE ARE
Visioncon began with a group of people who thought having a game convention
of their own would be cool. The convention has evolved into much more than
that today. Today we are a large group of people who enjoy not only gaming
but the whole aspect of Science Fiction and Fantasy. The staff has grown
from five or six people to more than twenty people. Visioncon’s staff works
on a volunteer basis.
WHAT WE ARE
Visioncon is a Science-Fiction/Fantasy/Gaming convention that is held in
Springfield, Missouri, yearly. At the convention there are movies, gaming,
costume contests, local dance troupes, art on display and for sale, dealers,
and much more. We have a variety of guests, from media, writers, and artists
to special effects people. We also have a variety of clubs who attend, from
Storm Troopers and Klingons to armor smiths and weapon smiths.
